The Heart of Salsa Award
In 2025, we created a new, very special award called the Heart of Salsa.
The Heart of Salsa Award honours the memory of Nathania, whose kindness, warmth and positive spirit made her a cherished part of our team. She brought joy, compassion and a ‘how can I help?’ attitude to every interaction. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
Established in 2025 (the year Nathania lost her battle with cancer), this award recognises a team member who reflects those same qualities. It recognises someone who contributes to the heart of Salsa’s culture by lifting others, showing generosity and making Salsa a better place for everyone.
Each year, Salsarians cast one vote for the person they think has demonstrated the Heart of Salsa values during that year.
The inaugural Heart of Salsa Award goes to…
In its first year, the Heart of Salsa Award went to joint winners, Angela Rako and Kate Swayne.
Here’s what Salsarians said about Angela when casting their votes:
- To me Angela is the soul of Salsa and I could not think of anyone else to give this award to. She is always there when needed and always finds the time to reply even though she is probably always super busy. To you Angela, thanks for being you and please continue doing so!
- Always there, always listening, always cares.
- All heart. Deep care for whole of Salsa. Deep care for each and every Salsarian.
Here’s what Salsarians said about Kate when casting their votes:
- Always bubbly and always ready to help, no matter what the problem.
- Always ready to pick up whatever is thrown at her — with a smile. And patience.
- Never says no, and gets it done in time, no matter what!
