Mental health tribute walk
Nick brought laughter, music and motorcycle stories into every stand-up. Losing him reminded us how quietly mental health battles can rage. felt like the right response: an outdoors challenge on the Mornington Peninsula, a place where Nick spent lots of time. And a cause that directly funds Beyond , Australia’s frontline mental health charity. Registering under the team name Salsa Digital – In support of turned grief into purpose and gave staff, clients and friends a practical way to help.
Mornington Peninsula trek day
At 11 am on 23 May, Antoine, Des, Paul, Shane, Alfred and his wife, and I set off from Sorrento Front Beach. A cool southerly kept us honest as we traced cliff tops, tea-tree tunnels and tide-washed sand to Point Nepean. Four hours and 42 minutes later we crossed the finish line in one very salty group hug, hearts as full as our calves were tight.
Fundraising milestone achieved
The generosity was overwhelming: 123 donors helped us bank $11,986, slotting Salsa Digital into sixth place nationally on the Coastrek leaderboard. Every $48 funds a Beyond phone or web-chat session, so our total will underwrite roughly 250 life-changing conversations for Australians doing it tough. Thank you to everyone who shared, donated or cheered us along the trail.
Carrying Nick’s spirit
Nick’s spark was with us every kilometre – in the banter, the terrible playlist. For me, the walk doubled as moving meditation. Each step repeated the message we’re now sharing at Salsa: check in early, talk openly, and reach for professional support if the dark days linger.
Beyond is available 24/7 on 1300 22 4636.
Looking ahead to 2026
The finish-line buzz hasn’t faded, so we’re planning a bigger Nickcited squad for Coastrek 2026. Expect louder socks, heftier fundraising goals and (I promise) better training playlists. If you’d like to join the team or back the cause, let me know – the more kilometres we cover together, the more conversations we fund. Until then, take a mental health minute today: ring a mate, stretch, breathe. Nick would approve.
