Overview

Salsa Digital is looking for a Senior Proposal, Submission and Tender Writer to join the team on a part-time basis, working 24 hours per week. You will be responsible for driving responses to inbound enquiries, request for quotes, tenders and proposal requests from various procurement panels and sources. You will be supported by the Salsa Executive and Business Development Team, whose responses are integral to executing Salsa’s vision – to help government and enterprise become more open, more connected and more consolidated.

The Senior Proposal, Submission and Tender Writer position is part of a larger Salsa Business Development Team, with each team member having distinct functions that need to work collaboratively together. A key component of this role will be to be aware of and work closely with the whole Business Development Team to achieve Salsa’s strategic business development goals and objectives.

You will be a valued member of the Salsa Digital Business Development Team reporting to the Salsa Business Development Lead.

Salsa wishes to continue this momentum with an opportunity to further entrench in government, as well as taking Salsa products and services to enterprise clients. To capitalise on this opportunity, Salsa has created the Senior Proposal, Submission and Tender Writer role to invest in our business development capacity.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive inbound sales outcomes; requests for quotes/tenders from clients/agencies (i.e. initiated by a potential client/agency).

  • Support outbound processes by working closely with Salsa’s Outbound Sales Development Representative (SDR) to execute outbound processes — typically an outbound campaign (i.e. initiated by Salsa) targeting potential clients/agencies or enterprises.

  • Maintaining Copper to track opportunities through the inbound sales lifecycle and working with the Sales Development Representative (SDR) to manage similar for the outbound sales lifecycle, including:

    • Initial qualification of opportunity

    • Registration of opportunity

    • Manage opportunity transitions — Manage the Copper board tracking transitions and ensure it’s accurate for the weekly sales meeting

    • Response structure on Salsa Google Drive — You’d be expected to create the initial Google Drive response structure with the supplied context for each opportunity, create the qualification assessment documentation and, if/once qualified, create the response documents based on Salsa templates

    • Sales reporting from Copper — Provide monthly, quarterly and annual sales reports to report to the Salsa Executive team.

  • Be responsible for the compilation of tender responses such as Requests for Quotes (RFQs), which include:

    • Governing the response strategy

    • Preparing the response scaffold

    • Coordination of contributing (internal) parties

    • Coordination of contributing (external) parties

    • Compiling the response

  • Support other pre-sales activities, including:

    • Harvesting Salsa tender responses — Salsa has a tender response library and tooling to automate response production. This library and other repository of assets is used to more efficiently compile tender responses. The Senior Proposal, Submission and Tender Writer would be expected to assess each tender response and determine harvesting opportunities for content to be made generic and added to the Salsa tender library and response repositories.

    • Identify opportunities to align Salsa website, campaign collateral and tender collateral — Harvest Salsa website content and Salsa outbound campaign content in the production of more effective tender response (inbound) library content. While this is similar to the harvesting of tender responses (above) the opportunity is triggered from internal Salsa activities rather than triggered by responding to a prospect.

Skills (must haves)

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a sales/account executive role in the IT industry
  • At least 3 years’ experience coordinating and responding to proposals, submissions, tenders, submissions and RFQs ideally within government
  • Industry experience in a sales or business development role
  • Desire to be a key contributor to business development and sales processes
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational skills (for example, government tender responses are often custom documents in excess of 100 pages)
  • An outcomes-focused problem solver and creative thinker
  • Strong discipline to build and maintain processes, systems and templates
  • Ability to identify repeatable content patterns, convert them and add into Salsa’s reusable content library
  • Strong entrepreneurial and executional drive
  • A positive thinker; your glass is at least half full
  • A level-headed nature who stays calm under pressure and knows how to prioritise
  • Reliable and well-structured in your work approach; you’re a leader who gets things done
  • Committed to your deliverables and agreed timelines

Skills (highly desired)

  • Experience or familiarity with Australian Government procurement process
  • Experience in the technical domains of Salsa (e.g. enterprise content management, open data, open API, whole-of-government digital applications)
