For business analysts and subject matter experts | 3 hours | $450 + GST per person
Before a single line of code gets written, someone has to make sense of the legislation. That’s where rules mapping comes in.
Legislation is written for lawyers, not developers. It’s circular, referential and full of defined terms that point to other defined terms. Rules mapping is the process of untangling all of that and turning it into something a developer (and a computer) can actually work with.
This course walks you through the Salsa Digital rules mapping process — the same process we use on every RaC project. By the end, you’ll know how to go from raw legislation to a structured, developer-ready output.
What you’ll learn
- How to write plain English rules statements that cut through legislative complexity
- How to create a visual logic map of eligibility or compliance rules
- How to draft questions that map to the logic
- How to build a spreadsheet that gives your OpenFisca and Drupal developers everything they need
- How to define results blocks and the logic behind them
- How to write test cases that feed directly into OpenFisca development
Who it’s for
This course is designed for business analysts and subject matter experts — particularly those working in government agencies who are involved in, or preparing for, a Rules as Code project. No coding knowledge required.
How it works
The course runs for three hours and uses two practical, real-world scenarios throughout:
- Employing young people in the ACT
- A simplified disability allowance
You’ll work through guided exercises and group discussions, applying each step of the process as you go.
What you’ll walk away with
A solid understanding of the rules mapping process and a set of practical skills you can apply to your own legislation — straight away.
Minimum 6 attendees per course. Contact us to book a course or ask us about custom delivery options for your team.
