Salsa awarded Victorian Government hosting contract

Salsa has been awarded the hosting contract for the Victorian Government’s digital platform. The contract covers hosting, infrastructure, CDN, hosting optimisation, log metrics and dashboarding.

Victoria's Department of Premier and CabinetExternal Link (DPC) approached the market to find someone to host, manage, secure and serve their whole-of-government program to help them take Victoria’s Single Digital PresenceExternal Link to the next level. The number of websites hosted on the SDP program is expected to expand rapidly over the coming years. The hosting platform needed to scale to meet these growing needs and also needed to maintain and enhance performance (i.e. speed), reliability and security.

As the program expands and increases its breadth of services, the hosting platform will become more complex, requiring better monitoring, alerting and end-to-end observability for rapid troubleshooting.

DPC was looking for a vendor who could meet these requirements to scale SDP.

“Salsa is excited to be continuing our work with Victoria's Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) to host, secure, manage and scale the hosting platform for Single Digital Presence and Victoria’s open data portal,” said Alfred Deeb, Salsa Director and Co-founder. “Salsa and DPC co-created SDP back in 2018, and this represents the next stage of our continuing work to help the Victorian Government be more open, more connected and more consolidated.”

Salsa has brought together a group of best-of-breed partners who can deliver on key components of a whole-of-government technical stack.

The consortium consists of:

Each organisation offers proven solutions at enterprise level within the current DPC/SDP context and/or in other enterprise contexts. They are all experts in their domains.

Salsa is the prime contractor, delivering services, program governance, technical account management, incident response and DevOps. Salsa integrates its partner services into one complete service offering to DPC, as one voice. This ability to bring together experts and provide SDP with a true partnership is highly valued by SDP/DPC.

Salsa also runs the SDP Service Desk and is the main point of contact for DPC. The Level 1 Service Desk triages all issues and incidents and then either actions them or delegates them to the appropriate team. Salsa also provides 24/7 emergency response support. Through this service Salsa’s Drupal and platform infrastructure experts are on-call 24/7. When an emergency call comes in, they triage the ticket, investigating the issue. If possible, the on-call engineer acts on the requirement for a fast resolution. Salsa’s role in these situations is as the ‘first responder’ and to coordinate emergency action from the organisation that can fix the problem (if Salsa can’t).

The contract covers program-level governance; 24/7 support; a fully managed web application firewall service; an elastic, container-based edge computing platform; a log monitoring and analysis platform; a cloud-agnostic hosting platform solution; and containerisation hosting technology.

The contract is for one year, with an option to renew for a second year.
