Toby Wild

Based in Canberra, Toby is responsible for escalated tickets in the GovCMS service desk, setting the overall technical direction and providing technical strategy.

Toby has joined Salsa working part time (four days per week), as a L3 GovCMS / GovCMS tech lead / senior developer, dedicating his expertise to various projects.

With an extensive background in government projects, including both SaaS and PaaS versions of GovCMS and standard Drupal builds, Toby brings over 10 years of specialised experience to the Salsa team.

As a senior developer, Toby translates visual designs into intricate web page layouts. His skills extend beyond the frontend to backend development, using various languages, APIs and programs across databases and infrastructure.

As a GovCMS service desk technical lead, Toby sets the overall technical direction for the GovCMS service desk.

Previous experience

Toby brings over a decade of experience as a Drupal developer to Salsa, having crafted engaging and informative websites for prominent government departments. He is a master of custom modules, themes, and Drupal migrations and upgrades, ensuring solutions remain contemporary and secure.

For the past 10+ years, Toby has worked on projects for government clients at the federal, state and local levels on over 30 government websites. Prior to joining Salsa, Toby worked as a Drupal developer for Deloitte Digital, managing multifaceted teams across various locations, delivering top-tier digital products with Drupal, the Victorian Government's Single Digital Presence (SDP) and React.

In other past roles as a senior developer and technical consultant, Toby showcased his expertise in technical solution discovery, bid writing, coaching and project delivery. He is a highly skilled Drupal developer and GovCMS subject matter expert (SME). His diverse skill set extends beyond Drupal, encompassing full-stack development and a flair for creativity.

Hobbies and fun facts

When not immersed in the digital world, creativity flows through Toby’s veins, making his life a canvas of unique stories.

Toby enjoys art and is technically a professional internationally displayed artist, having sold some of his sculptures to a gallery in China. He’s not just an artist in creativity but also in the ring — Toby’s passion for Muay Thai took him to Thailand in 2015 to be part of a Muay Thai boxing gym for three months.

In 2013, Toby gave a humorous TEDxCanberra talk about mobile phones. It’s very entertaining and gives an insight into Toby’s humour, wit and tech-savvy persona.

Toby is an adventure seeker and enjoys scuba diving and bouldering in his spare time. He’s an honest, laid-back guy with an itch for tattoos.
